Kingston Health Coalition Formed

Individuals, representatives of community agencies, and unions, concerned about the future of our public health care system met on December 15,1999, to formalize the Kingston Health Coalition.  The meeting adopted a Statement of Purpose [attached] that stressed the importance of a public, non-profit health care.  The Coalition will be an activist organization open to everyone who shares the broad aims of the organization.

Natalie Mehra, a community activist, and Ross Sutherland, a community health nurse and member of Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3932, were elected co-chairs of the organization.  Initial projects of the Coalition will include increasing the democratic control of home care, improving financial support of people with disabilities, and documenting the monetary and care costs of profitizing our health care system.

The next meeting of the Kingston health Coalition will be held on January 27, in the room at Kingston City hall.
