STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Vision Statement
- The Kingston Health Coalition is
committed to maintaining and enhancing our publicly funded, publicly
administered health care system.
- We believe the principles of the
Canada Health Act must be honoured and strengthened.
- We are committed to mobilizing the
public to take action to challenge the dismantling of our treasures
national health care system.
- We believe that all members of a
community should have the right to food, security, adequate housing,
quality child care, employment, education, health care and a safe
environment in our homes and our communities.
- We will promote social and economic
justice to build a society where every participant contributes fairly.
Action Statement
- The Kingston Health Coalition will
be an action-oriented coalition with a focus on eliminating the
privatization of our health care system.
- We will collectively develop fair
and equitable alternatives for reforming the health care system. To
implement our action plan we will work with existing community
coalitions and work to develop and encourage the growth of new
community coalitions.
- The Kingston Health Coalition is a
partner of the Ontario Health Coalition.
- We will promote and foster our
vision.
Structure of the Kingston Health
Coalition
- The Kingston Health Coalition is an
action coalition consisting of local organizations and individuals who
agree with our Statement of Purpose.
- Decisions will be made by majority
vote of those present at the meeting.
- Every attempt will be made to first
make decisions by consensus.
- The Kingston Health Coalition will
have two co-chairs, one from the community and one from the labour
movement.
- We will aim for gender parity.
- There will be an administrative
committee that consists of the two co-chairs and one additional
representative from the labour movement and one additional
representative from the community.
- The purpose of the administrative
committee will be to deal with issues that come up between meetings.
It will meet as needed.
- The Kingston Health Coalition will
meet on a monthly or as needed basis at the time and place decided by
the members.
- At least two members of labour and
two members from the community must be present.
